DENTAL TREATMENTS

Check-ups

It is really important to have regular check-ups so that any problem can be identified early and treated before it progresses. Dr Alison J Brown will recommend the time interval between your check-ups which for most patients is generally 6 months.
Regular check-ups make sure that we monitor your oral health and give us the opportunity to make recommendations to ensure your teeth and mouth stay healthy. Alison looks for signs of oral cancer at each check-up. This is important as, caught early, it can be treated much more effectively. She will ask you about your diet and oral hygiene and make suggestions and give advice.

Alison will also need to ask you about your general heath and it would be helpful if you bring with you a list of any medications you may be taking. Some medicines have effects on the mouth and some medical conditions may influence the type of dental treatment suitable for you. She will ask you if you are having any discomfort or have any concerns and if you have any questions.

After an examination of your mouth, Alison will discuss what treatment may be required and she will explain anything that needs to be done so that you have plenty of opportunity to ask questions. You will be able to have a written treatment plan and be able to make an appointment to start your treatment. If you wish, Alison may do a small filling or a scale and polish at this appointment but any further treatment will require you to make a new appointment.

Initial check-ups for new patient will take slightly longer and includes a full examination of the teeth and gums, taking your past dental history as well as your medical history. Radiographs may be taken, if required.
